It has turned into a progressive dinner party like none other.

The Dine Cowichan is off to a fine start with folks in the Valley enjoying all the offerings 26 of our finest restaurants have to offer.

Just one of the stops on the tour is Genoa Bay Café where executive chef Dustin Cooknell has been serving a special three-course Dine Cowichan offering that includes a delicious seared duck breast with goat cheese stuffed barley arancini, duck fat roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted yam puree and blueberry gastrique. Also on the menu is Genoa Bay Café’s yummy coconut crusted red prawn with mango chipotle cream appetizer and their truffle trio dessert.

Dine Cowichan runs until March 10 with 26 restaurants participating, countless culinary adventures and unbeatable prices.

This is a great opportunity to try new restaurants and enjoy special pricing at some of your favourite eateries.

Check out duncancc.bc.ca for more information and a complete list of all the participating restaurants.

The Chamber, in partnership with Western Stevedoring, will present Bill Jahelka, Vancouver Island Operations Manager with Western Canada Marine Response Corporation at a luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 28.

This is a good opportunity to learn more about issues such as marine spills with so much ongoing discussion about pipelines.

The luncheon is being held at Oceanfront Inn & Suites in Cowichan Bay and runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

And, it should be noted, this luncheon and others organized by the Chamber is open to the public. You don’t have to be a member to attend and learn more about a broad range of subjects affecting the business sector and the community as a whole.

WCMRC is an industry-funded organization with more than 2,300 members and is the only Transport Canada-certified marine response organization on Canada’s West Coast. WCMRC works to ensure there is a state of preparedness in place when a marine spill occurs and to mitigate the impacts on B.C.’s coast. This includes the protection of wildlife, economic and environmental sensitivities, and the safety of both responders and the public. They respond to an average of 20 marine spills annually.

For more information contact the Chamber at 250-748-1111.

Ana Francisco of the Downtown Duncan BIA is alerting businesses that there has been another rash of credit card fraud in the Cowichan Valley.

Fraudsters are making transactions with stolen credit cards by punching in the numbers rather than just the PIN.

Ana says businesses are urged to monitor their terminals and ensure that customers are only entering their PIN number and not accessing the menu. A transaction with a manual card entry will have the receipt say ‘manual’.
