Robin MacDowell spotted a lot of talent during his series of rugby camps on Vancouver Island in August.

MacDowell and fellow Duncan product Pat Kay, a current member of the national men’s sevens team, teamed up to put on the camps in the Cowichan Valley, Westshore and Nanaimo.

A former national sevens player with ties to several programs across Canada, MacDowell said several players caught his eye during the three camps.

“I’m definitely keen on several Island players, both boys and girls, for many teams coming up,” the coach said.

MacDowell is heading back to Saskatchewan where he runs his own rugby academy and coaches the men’s sevens team at the University of Regina.

This summer, MacDowell coached Mexico’s national women’s sevens team to its first World Cup appearance. He is concentrating on developing Canadian talent this fall, and will head to the Dubai Sevens in November with the North American Barbarians U19 team.
