CVSA hosts Island Invitational Cup

Five Cowichan Valley teams will be in action this weekend as the Sherman Road soccer facility plays host to the 53rd annual Island Invitational Cup Tournament of Champions.

The Cowichan Valley Soccer Association will be represented in the U14, U16 and U17 girls title games and in the U14 and U18 boys championships as Lower Island Soccer Association teams take on the top squads from the Upper Island Soccer Association.

A total of 11 games will be played on Saturday and Sunday on the Keserich field grass pitch and the Williams Field turf.

The Cowichan Valley U16 girls will face the Oceanside Strikers on the turf in the very first game of the weekend at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday. The U13 girls game between Comox Valley Red and either Lakehill or Gorge will start at 11:25 a.m.

At 12:50 p.m., the U15 boys game will take place between Juan de Fuca Blue and the Powell River Panthers on the turf, and at 1 p.m., Saanich Fusion and Harbour City FC will square off on the grass in the boys U13 match.

Two local teams will be in action next as the Cowichan U14 boys meet the Campbell River Strikers on the turf at 2:30 p.m. and the Cowichan U14 girls face the Campbell River Rapids on the grass at 2:40 p.m.

At 10 a.m. on Sunday, the U17 girls game will see Cowichan take on Harbour City FC on the turf, and at 11:15 a.m., the Comox Valley Blaze will meet either Prospect Lake or Peninsula in the U18 girls final.

The Cowichan Grizzlies will battle Comox Valley United on the turf in the U18 boys match at 11:50 a.m., and Saanich Fusion will face the Powell River Knights in the U17 boys match on the grass at 1:15 p.m.

The weekend will wrap up with the U15 girls game between the Alberni Valley Athletics and either Prospect Lake or Peninsula on the turf at 1:40 p.m.
