Four athletes with ties to the Cowichan Valley will be suiting up at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, which begin on Thursday in Langley.

Runner Tyson Black and goaltender Colin Jeffrey will wear the green and gold for Australia, while Tyson Roe will suit up for England, and D.J. Saari will play for Finland.

Black’s dad, Traves, is originally from Australia, while Jeffrey’s grandfather, Bill, was also born there. Black won a provincial junior B title with the Cowichan Valley Thunder in 2018, and played for the senior B Victoria Wolves in 2019, finishing third in league scoring as a rookie.

Jeffrey played junior A box lacrosse for the Nanaimo Timbermen this summer and also plays field lacrosse for the University of Montevallo in Alabama. He also played for Australia at the 2019 World Junior Lacrosse Championship in Ontario.

Roe, who plays for the senior A Nanaimo Timbermen, played for Team England at the 2017 tournament in New York.

Saari, who now plays with the senior A Maple Ridge Burrards, will be making his World Championships debut for Finland.

All 72 games of the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships will be broadcast for free via the Lax Sports Network.
