Turtle doves are wild around here

I don’t know whether Mary Plaatjes of Duncan has been notified about the turtle doves she has in her yard.

As I don’t do the Facebook or Twitter things, waste of time, I cannot reply to her letter in the Citizen. The doves she is seeing are around in the area. They are wild. We usually have three to four around our feeders and bird baths. If you look up ringed turtle dove, you will note that they actually should not be here. You should be seeing at least three, as it is said that they come as a pair and a spare in case the male mate is too tired for you know what. We even had a nest in a large tree last year.

They are a neat bird, as they will walk from one feeder to the next and are not afraid of humans, unless you get too close.

Hope this helps,
