Skateboarders ruining quiet downtown

My husband and I have been living in the downtown core for a year now. We are pleasantly surprised how quiet the vendors at the Farmer’s market are setting up. We are not pleased with how noisey a certain group of individuals are. Skateboarders!

We were awoken at 3:15 a.m. by four people skate boarding off the stage at City Square. The sound is like someone dragging a garbage dumpster over cobblestones with a crashing finish of the boards slamming against the ground. We have complained to City Hall. We have asked the kids to move on as there is a sign stating “no skateboarding”, which usually ends in us been sworn at and ignored.

They are not stupid, as they always wait until after 4:30 p.m. when the commissionaires are off duty. We have seen a few kids fall and limp away. I expect that in future one of kids will be seriously injured and the parents will be after City Hall.

Spending five minutes on the internet we were able to find different ways to add deterrents to the stage that would stop them from skating off the edge. There is a skate park by the community centre and most skateboarders pass through town in a respectful manner. Unfortunately there are a few who don’t seem to understand or care about how they disrupt other people’s enjoyment of the downtown core.

We hope some action will take place as downtown Duncan is nice place to live.
