Save-On staff excellent after fall

I am overwhelmed and touched by the care I received after being knocked to the ground by the sudden lurching forward of a motorized wheelchair belonging to the woman lining up behind me at our local Save-On store.

While I was in the middle of the transaction of paying for my groceries, I was hit with such a force that I found myself sprawled on the floor, not able to move after hitting my head and other parts of my anatomy. But immediately I was surrounded by people trying to help me; the cashier, other customers (they retrieved my wallet and other things that must have flown out of my hands of fallen off my walker!), but especially the store manager, Derik Sheers, who immediatly called 911, but remained with me throughout the ordeal, supporting my head and upper back.

Within minutes the paramedics arrived, assessed my condition, made sure I hadn’t suffered any fractures, and at my own request pulled me back up on my feet and helped me walk around until I (and they!) were confident that I could walk home by myself, which is what I insisted on doing. However, this was not to the satisfaction of Mr. Sheers, who nsisted on personally seeing me home, which is what he did.

So now I’m recuperating wat home, nursing my bruises. I may be 87 years old and fragile, and this encounter with, after all, a motorized vehicle and follwing that, a very hard floor, will slow me down for a while. But I credit my daily exercises and constant walks, plus a very nimble guardian angel, for preventing me from worse. And I wanted to thank the good people of Duncan for their kindness, especially Mr. Sheers and the paramedics who attended me, from the bottom of my heart.
