Racism and hate have not place in Cowichan Valley
Today I passed a man shopping in one of our local grocery stores. He was wearing a t-shirt of a Canadian flag that read, “If this flag offends you, I’ll help you pack”.
I was offended. In fact, I felt quite mad. I value our right to freedom of speech. This man has every right to express his opinion. And so do I. And to this man I say, “Sir, we are all living on stolen Indigenous land. And if this statement offends you, we’ll all help you pack. And we’ll help you pack your racist t-shirt of hate and your white male privilege entitled arrogance with it.”
Racism and hate have no place in the Cowichan Valley — or anywhere for that matter.
