Needle, drug problem in Duncan growing

My sister and I have been living in Duncan our entire life and we have never seen the drug problem this bad before.

Today, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. my sister found a dozen used needles thrown into our fenced yard. I have a dog, Meeko, who runs freely in the yard; luckily my sister spotted the needles before he did, or this could have been a much worst outcome, and we have a newborn in our house.

They said with this new safe use shelter area it would decrease the problems, but it is not the case. I have been in Duncan 24 years and I don’t want to even be here in Duncan anymore, but I own a home here. I am a first aid responder and I know the severity of getting poked by a used dirty needle. I hope you post a story about this because something needs to be done, or at least let the community know to search their yards before letting an animal or child outside.

The non-emergency line for police is closed on Sundays, Margret Moss [Health Centre] is closed on Sundays, oh and the Warmland Shelter told me they were done for the day. What does that leave us to do? Pick the dirty needles up ourselves? We need more options in our community than the ones I am left with today.
