Misinformation spreading about proposed pension bill

It appears that Messrs. Kinloch and Appleby are engaging in a disinformation tactic to mislead the public about Alistair MacGregor’s Bill C-231, a strategy sadly common these days.

If they would bother to look at the bill, they would see that there is no intention to “take the administration of the Canada Pension Funds away from the CPP Investment Board.” Rather, the bill simply proposes to amend Section 35 of the CPPIB Act to ensure that the funds are invested responsibly, both financially and ethically. The preamble of the bill acknowledges that Canada has “a long history as a defender of human rights and freedoms, is committed to promoting responsible business practices and holding to account those who violate human, labour and environmental rights.” I fully support Alistair’s bill, which, if adopted, will raise Canada’s reputation around the world.

Anyone may read the Summary of this Act at https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/43-2/bill/C-231/first-reading.
