Why are per capita health transfers higher in the north?
The federal government transfers Canada health and Canada social funds to all provinces and territories in Canada.
There seems to be some unfairness in the transfers. Why? In the fiscal year, 2022/23 Manitoba received $5.1 billion in federal transfers with a population of 1,342,153.
Nunavut received $1.9 billion in federal transfers with a population of 36,858.
Northwest territories received $1.6 billion in federal transfers with a population of 41,070.
Yukon territory received $1.2 billion in federal transfers with a population of 40,232.
Ontario received $23.7 billion in federal transfers with a population of 14,223,942.
Quebec received $27.4 billion in federal transfers with a population of 8,501,833.
Why should the territorial provinces receive such high transfers and why does Quebec receive more than Ontario with 5,722,109 fewer people?
This is a cause for concern to all Canadian taxpayers.
