The carbon tax works
Having just read a letter published which claims that carbon tax increase is harming us, I feel that I must respond.
Over 200 Canadian economists have submitted an open letter regarding carbon tax based on actual evidence.
As of when I write this, most news orgs have published this, though I’ve found nothing in Post Media.
What these economists, who spend much of their lives studying evidence around MacroEconomics say is basically, 1. It works. 2. It contributes less than one per cent to inflation. 3. It actually improves most people’s finances (especially middle and lower income and rural). 4. It will improve Canadian business in the growing low carbon economy. 5. It is NOT necessary for us to meet climate goals, BUT is the method least costly to us.
Sadly there are many people, including one (recently become populist) party’s official statement who do not believe the ‘experts’ whether they be medical, scientific, or economics who spend most of their time studying the field.
