Neonicotinoid pesticides should be banned

Dear [MP] Allistair [MacGregor],

Pollinators play an incredibly important role in what ends up on our plate. Pollinators like bees, flies, butterflies and birds help our local agriculture produce fruits and vegetables and feed many wild species in Canada’s diverse habitats. They are essential for our food and lives.

It’s shocking that the federal government has decided against banning the use of neonicotinoid pesticides, despite the strong evidence of harm to many species and despite making a promise to do so back in 2019. These deadly chemicals devastate our pollinator populations and threaten some of our biggest agricultural helpers.

Yet another reason to distrust a government that is working for industry rather than the well being of the people and land.

As someone who cares for food security and has many voters farming in the valley, please let us know what you are able and willing to do about it as our representative in Ottawa.

For more information go to Nature Canada, one of the oldest national nature conservation charities in Canada.

Yours sincerely,

P. Foot
