Camping rules not being enforced at Rotary Park

Come one, come all! Unrestricted camping now permitted in Rotary Park, courtesy of Mayor Michelle Staples.

Bylaw Enforcement Officers have been instructed to speak gently and nicely to long term campers but can’t actually enforce the applicable overnight bylaw and force illegal campers to move on. Nor can they issue tickets for bylaw infractions. A notorious family of known heroin addicts has now taken up the invitation and moved in.

Here’s a suggestion. Why not designate Charles Hoey Park and City Square as the designated long term camping sites? Both of them are very near to all the facilities that the campers use and this would allow the mayor and those councillors who don’t actually live in Duncan, as well as visiting tourists, to see the real face of our city.
