Broom busters deserve credit

I’m writing about two issues. In (I believe) the June 16/22 issue’s editorial about broom busting which I was delighted to see, there was no mention of volunteer broom busters.

Since learning several years ago what an environmental pest it is, I began to volunteer for this great cause and so was disappointed to read no mention in your editorial of our collective efforts in the cause of eradicating it. I often think we do more than anyone else, certainly more than any governmental department to date. There was some balance for this in an article later in the paper that acknowledges the efforts of volunteers.

Secondly, I think in the same issue, there was news with photo of the new fire truck for North Cowichan. What caught my eye first was the ‘Z’ on the side of the truck. It was likely some graphic designer’s idea of jazzing up the truck, but it’s also been much in the news re: Russia using it in their attempt to take over the Ukraine. Unfortunate symbol!
