Kimm should walk the walk, not throw stones
Writer Ian Kimm claims (“Politicians failing to plan future of transportation”, Aug. 23, Citizen) “far too many politicians… have (sic) not given the response to climate change the attention it deserves”.
I recommend that he follow his own advice instead of bashing federal MP Alistair MacGregor and B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver, both of whom are working towards clean energy solutions.
Mr. Kimm could, for example, start by absorbing NASA scientist, Peter Kalmus’s book, Being the change — live well and spark a climate revolution.
The early chapters in the book clearly outline how fossil fuel use is the major cause of global warming. “We need to start speaking this truth — burning fossil fuels harms others — so that society can begin realizing it .” (pg.11)
The urgency and seriousness of the threat have brought us to the place where we are now faced with possible to probable human extinction, depending on what we do about it.
Throwing darts of cynicism at leaders who are informed and caring (internationally acclaimed climate scientist, Dr. Weaver was a co-recepient of the Nobel Peace Prize for work on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) seems to me like partying in the lounge as the Titanic begins to sink.
“Which is a tragedy” indeed.
