Heaven not a ‘heterosexuals only’ club

Re: “God never intended for rainbows to mark up our city crosswalks”, (Citizen, June 16)

I’ve never considered myself to be a particularly vocal person. However, it seems to me that some things are just plain confusing, like this particular issue, which continually leaves me speechless.

I’m sure most have noticed, as I have, the proliferation of terrorism, violence and fear taking place across this great planet of ours. One might be tempted to suggest that violence and division have become an unfortunate norm in our society.

Now, I was under the distinct impression that we are to ‘turn the other cheek’, and ‘love thy neighbour as thyself’. And I’m pretty sure that Jesus defended a persecuted woman, saying ‘he that is without sin among you, cast the first stone’.

It seems reasonable to think that if anyone had realized that Christ’s teachings of love, humility and acceptance were ‘meant for one group’, He would have built that fact into the foundation of His Creation.

Furthermore, it follows that a rainbow is a symbol of God’s love, and there is no better way to combat evil than refusing to submit to the hatred and intolerance that it creates.

It’s as if God’s created beings have designated heaven a ‘heterosexuals only’ club, where His love no longer matters if you’re not ‘following the party line’.

If the Creator of the rainbow should see how His symbol of love and trust has been twisted, and if He should want to come down and knock a few misguided heads about for a bit, it would seem prudent to figure out exactly what you’ve actually learned from Christ’s teachings.

As most know, God sacrificed his son for all of humanity.
