Focus should be on community, not cutting services

Mr. Jorginson has said he wants to cut taxes in Shawnigan Lake.

My taxes are collected by the province, which in turn allocates funds to all the regional district members based on residency. I looked at the breakdown of the share of my taxes that go to the CVRD, this is based on our needs and our share of costs for the regional district services like police etc. This year our tax burden that went to the CVRD to provide those services is down, based on per $100,000 of assessed value it went from $306.07 to $293.77, not a big drop but to me, this demonstrates that the politicians in all the areas, including Shawnigan Lake and the CVRD staff are working together to ensure that our taxes are kept in check, properly spent and allocated to our priorities.

Things like joint policing, libraries, Shawnigan Lake Community Centre, Shawnigan Lake Historical Society, our share of Kerry Park etc., those could certainly be cut or eliminated by Mr. Jorginson.

I know that I do not want those services cut or eliminated, however those are his options if he wants to pursue them.

Our affairs are being prudently managed and I value the services provided. I feel the focus should continue to be on building a positive community that works for all of us in Shawnigan Lake, not cutting services.
