Farmed fish: vote with your wallet

After reading a lot of letters over the years about fish farms, and we all know they are polluting our waters, I have some practical thoughts.

If you really want to get rid of the fish farms do not go to work there. Suggest to friends you know that there is other work. They advertise regularly and had an ad in your paper on Friday.

Don’t buy farmed fish. Most fish is labelled in the stores. If it’s not labelled, ask, and buy wild fish only. Tell the store why.

When you go out for dinner and feel like salmon and the menu doesn’t identify farm or wild fish, ask. Don’t order farmed fish and tell the restaurant why.

Vote with your wallet.

I remember coming to Vancouver in the ’80s on business and going to Fillet of Fish for dinner with some friends. The salmon was farmed fish and I explained to the people I was with why I would not have this menu item. They had no clue. That is no longer an option. We must get rid of these fish farms.
