Defacing signs disrespects the election process

I noticed several of Steve Housser’s signs in Shawnigan Lake have been defaced and or pushed over. It is so sad to see this petty behaviour in a democratic society like ours where we value freedom of expression and the right to run for office (evidenced by the number of candidates)

Defacing a candidate’s signs is not part of the democratic process, is it petty and shows disrespect to the process. Whether you agree with Mr. Housser’s campaign or not, he has the right to put up signs and in our society we have the right to choose who will represent us.

I hope whoever has done this will realize that it gains nothing at all, and only challenges and makes our resolve to ensure those rights remain intact. That their behaviour does not make us all less, only them.

I realize it is likely to have little impact on the person who did this and that their behaviour will not likely influence the outcome of the election. However I truly hope they come to realize that kind of behaviour does not belong in our society. What we have is a freedom that too precious to throw away for some childish behaviour.
