Crosswalk caution in Lake Cowichan

As a driver, there’s clearly something wrong with the South Shore Road crosswalk near the Country Grocer (see “South Shore Road repaving” on Page 5 in this week's Gazette).

All too often, I’ve driven past the well-signed crosswalk, to find an angry pedestrian raising their arms in frustration. I try to hide my identity in shame, or provide an apologetic wave, but the damage has already been done.

As a pedestrian, there’s clearly something wrong with the South Shore Road crosswalk near the Country Grocer.

All too often, I’ve waited for four or five vehicles to pass before one stops and waits for me to cross.

This isn’t the case at other crosswalks in town, where vehicles more readily stop.

It’s nice to see the town’s elected officials addressing this problem. Let’s hope something is done before someone gets hurt.
