An era of state approved media?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s $595 million life saving buyout of the Canadian “legacy media” is something every Canadian should be concerned about. First, the money will go to so called “trusted sources” determined by a select committee and approved by the prime minister. What on earth is going on here?

Are we now in an era of state approved media? We are not Venezuela, North Korea or China, where the government decides who will be able to speak and who will not. This is Canada, the true north strong and (supposedly) free, not a government directed totalitarian regime with little or no freedoms.

Canadians will probably come to the perfectly natural conclusion that just before a national election Mr. Trudeau is propping up the national media to do his bidding. No one should be surprised. It is already obvious that our taxpayer supported, national broadcaster is biased. When a major journalistic union consisting of 10,000 reporters also declares itself part of the “resistance” against a minority opposition party in parliament that has no real power we are unlikely to get fair coverage.

Secondly, we have to ask why the mainstream media needs to be supported by an influx of cash from the Liberal Party of Canada. Could it be because Canadians are “tuning out and turning off ” the dying establishment media and turning to “alternate” sources?” Who can blame them? When that media is brutally biased and slanted, why would we support them or believe anything they say?

It’s a sad day when freedom of speech fades and a soon to be state run media prepares to tell us what to believe. But that is the nature of things in Canada under the present administration. Freedoms lost are not always easily regained folks. It will be important to remember that when you vote in 2019.
