Our mother passed away peacefully on November2, 2003 at Victoria General Hospital with her children and grandchildren beside her. Muriel was born March 26, 1918 on Prideaux Street, Nanaimo BC. She had been a resident of Lake Cowichan for fifty six years. Mom was predeceased by her husband Adam, in 2000. Mom was a brave, outgoing, friendly, compassionate woman. She loved her family and was a great inspiration to them. Mom was a generous soul. Her gracious hospitality was known by all her visited her.

Muriel leaves her children; Dick(Yvonne), Barbara McCaskell(Ken), Beverly Nimmo(Don Prescott) and Adam William “Bill” Nimmo(Joan) and grandchildren: Carrie Nimmo(Tom Gould), Kirsten Harkins(Todd), Stewart McCaskell(Amanda), Bruce McCaskell, Ian McCaskell(Alexis), Christopher Dobson, Leslie Nimmo (Aaron), Jeffrey Nimmo. A grandson Matthew Nimmo predeceased her. She also leaves five great grandchildren; Katelyn, Nicklas, Jansen, Jonas and Markus.

Muriel leaves two special cousins: Mrs. Clare O’Shea of PEI, and Mr. Jim Young of Washington and many nieces and nephews as well as many loyal friends at Lake Cowichan.

In the years she lived at Lake Cowichan mom grew to love the community and the people. She had many friends and participated in so many organizations and events.

The Friday Night Bridge Club, Seniors’ Centre.

After Dad passed away Mom turned more to her children, grandchildren and great granchildren along with her close friends. Life at the Seniors’ Centre and the bus trips became more a part of her life. Mom continued working on her watercolours, mostly miniatures, and the knitting of her famous “slippers” for the family and special friends, and handwritten letters, and cards to family and friends were so important to all concerned.

On behalf of our mother and ourselves the family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to; Dr. Peter Postuk GP, The nurses on the 3rd floor, Dr. Spence and ICU nurses of Cowichan & District Hospital , Duncan. Also our thanks to Dr. Laura McLean and nurses Sheilagh, Corinne, Naomi and Carman of the ICU at Victoria General Hospital.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2003 at 1:00 pm at the Lake Cowichan United Church, 10 King George Street N. A memorial tea will be served immediately following at the Seniors Centre.
