Allen-Kenneth Roy passed away peacefully at home in Lake Cowichan on Tuesday, September 9,2003 at age 72. he will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Trudie and his son David of Kelowna. Predeceased by his parents Charlie and Bessie, sister Jean and nephew Roy. Survived by brother in law Ken Calverley, niece Linda (Harold) Gosling, nephews Ritchie (Alicia) Calverley, Bobby (Colleen) Calverley, Bruce Calverley, and families. Ken was born in Ladysmith on March 6, 1931 and lived in Lake Cowichan since 1952. Ken worked as a butcher throughout the valley in addition to cutting tons of wild game and cheerflly dispensing cooking advice along the way. He was a pitcher on the 1952 Senior B provincial championship softball team. Ken was a volunteer ambulance driver as a member of the Kinsmen Club and enjoyed bowling, curling, and the occasional round of golf. He also enjoyed fishing for trout in the Cowichan River while living at Pallies Auto Court in his early years in town. Special thanks to Dr. Kerswell and the Community Care nurses and Home Support workers who helped care for Ken in his final days. All are invited to attend a Celebration of Ken’s life at 97 Park Rd. in Lake Cowichan on Saturday, September 20th between 2 pm and 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. A kind and gentle man has left this earth.
