Following a lengthy illness, Gordon passed away on Friday October 31, 2003 in the peaceful presence of his daughter Donna Francis. Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. His wife, Alma of 56 years, 4 daughters; Sandra Perry (Rick), Beverly Ernewein (Gordie), Donna Francis (Terry), Laurie-Dayle Sanesh (Brian) son, Donald Peterson (Louise), 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren will sadly miss him. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Jonas and Anna Peterson, two sisters; Jennie Thomsett and Elva Peterson and two brothers; Kenneth and Sigrid. He is survived by his sisters; Norah Johnson, Lily Waterhouse, Ostrid Vandeeven, Hannah Lindoff and his brother Ronnie Peterson.

Gordon was born on a farm in Parkside, Saskatchewan on December 31, 1924. He moved to B.C. in 1947 seeking employment. Gordon and his wife settled in their home in Lake Cowichan in 1948. He was employed in the logging industry for many years. He also used his carpentry skills in helping with the construction of Yount School and the first housing complex in Lake Cowichan, the 100 houses as well as helping build and remodel many homes including his own. He built and operated the Lake Cowichan Building Supply from 1963 to 1973.

For many years Gordon enjoyed visiting and having lunch with his friends at the Senior’s Centre and bowling with friends and family on Friday nights. Gordon was a member of the Village of Lake Cowichan council where he acted on the board of variance. He was a founding and active member of the Lake Cowichan Pentecostal Church where he taught Sunday School for many years, helped with Kid’s Club and youth groups.He supported education by volunteering in school reading groups and was a supporter of minor hockey. Gordon’s life was a daily testimony of kindness, empathy and compassion. His willing support was evident amongst his family and others who he came in contact with. We will all remember Gordon by his kind encouraging words and hearty handshake.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Toth for his exceptional level of care and compassion to Gordon and his family. Also thanks goes to the staff of Cowichan Lodge and Carol Demchuck, physio-therapist.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday November 7th at the Lake Cowichan Pentecostal Christian Fellowship Church at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon. Interment at Mount Prevost cemetery at 3:00 pm
