November 27, 1919 – May 4, 2008

Elsie passed away quietly after a lengthy illness May 4, 2008. Elsie was born on November 27, 1919 in Clark’s Crossing, Saskatchewan. She went to school in Saskatoon until, in the thirties, her family moved to Nestledown, Saskatchewan. There she first met Harold Alan Kell while working for his family. On his return from the army after WWII they were married and lived on the farm in Nestledown, later moving to the town of Canwood, Saskatchewan to raise their family. There Elsie shared her love of painting with local children. She and Alan came to BC in 1974 and made their home in Lake Cowichan, where she lived until Alan’s death in 1988. Elsie is also predeceased by her parents, George and Sarah (nee Bergen); and brothers Mervin and Roland. Elsie leaves behind her sisters Lucy Nordstrom and Nenia Schimke (Tom); children Rod (Maureen), Marj Connell (Neil), Merv (Judy), and Niena Adair; and grandchildren Cameron, Lisa (Sean), Gordon, and Scott. Elsie never stopped mourning the loss of her husband: finally she is reunited with him. Many thanks to the staff of Cairnsmore for their expert care of Elsie in her final days. A memorial service will be held for Elsie on Saturday, May 10th, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Elsie’s name to your charity of choice.
