The much-anticipated Lake Cowichan episode of CBC’s Still Standing has been announced for Aug. 1.

Now, it’s time to plan the party, Lake Cowichan councillors have decided.

CBC star Jonny Harris visited the Lake last summer to film the episode of the popular TV show, winding up his time in the area with a real wingding at Centennial Hall, and leaving with a promise of “Watch this space”.

Councillors are excited.

“I’m glad we’re doing a public event,” said Mayor Ross Forrest at the Lake Cowichan council committee meeting June 6.

“I’ve already spoken to Greg Adams about Laketown Ranch. They’re open to having us there. CBC puts out a package to help us promote it and to brand and advertise the event. The clip is already up on Facebook now. Personally, I’d like to see us continue the theme we had before when the show was here. Maybe we could have Row of Crowz [the band that played at the event last year] back again.”

Coun. Lorna Vomacka said it would be a good idea to have something “to shuttle people back and forth” as there are probably lots who would like to go but who would not care to drive or who cannot.

Coun. Bob Day suggested any fundraising connected with the event should be narrowed down, as they had done with Lake Days this year.

“You need to attach it to something,” he said.

Forrest also said that CBC wants photos from the party.

“Everybody should take lots of pictures and send them to them. It’s great marketing for the community,” he said.

Day also suggested starting an event Facebook page.

Forrest said that, as of that moment, planning was still hinging on whether or not Laketown Ranch would be available.
