Police seize 251 pot plants in Youbou

Arbutus Road residence: Man arrested in connection to grow op in Youbou

A major marijuana grow-op in Youbou was busted Tuesday, as police arrested a male suspect.

The collar also seized 251 mature cannabis plants worth some $250,000, plus growing gear.

"On Feb. 4 members of the Lake Cowichan RCMP, and the Vancouver Island District General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant on a residence on Arbutus Road in Youbou," says Sgt. Wes Olsen's press release, "and located a marihuana-grow operation."

The home's sole occupant, a 48-year-old male, was arrested on scene, and released on bail, he said.

The suspect was not believed to be a lake resident.

Olsen pegged the marijuana's value at about $250,000, based on weed being worth around $1,000 per mature plant.

"It was a good-size (grow-op) for inside a residence."

There was no indication the cannabis plants were part of a legal medical marijuana-growing operation, he noted.

Police investigation of the case continues.
