Police are looking for suspects after a man on Sherman Road was struck by a large rock at approximately 10:15 p.m. on April 24.

The 67-year-old man was walking west on Sherman Road when the passenger of a vehicle threw a baseball-sized rock at him, striking him in the lower back.

The man is seeking medical attention for his injuries.

The passenger yelled something at the man before he threw the rock, then laughter could be heard as the vehicle drove away, also west on Sherman Road.

The victim was not able to identify any of the suspects because it was dark and he was knocked to the ground.

Cpl. Krista Hobday from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment said the incident was a random act and anyone could have been walking in the area and been a victim.

“This could have been tragic should the rock have hit him in the head,” she said.

Police are requesting that if you have information on this or any other crime, contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
