The Municipality of North Cowichan is asking the public for patience over the next several months as it completes work on Beverly Street in Duncan.

People are asked to bear with some traffic rerouting over the coming five months as the municipality extends the existing water main and widens the road surface on the north side of Beverly Street.

Traffic patterns on Beverly Street between York Road and the Trans-Canada Highway will be affected during this time with flaggers directing traffic through a temporarily changed traffic pattern. Eastbound traffic will be required to merge from a double lane into a single lane and westbound traffic will travel in a temporary westbound lane.

“As a busy road in and out of Duncan and North Cowichan, the road work on Beverly Street is one of our larger projects this year,” said Dave Conway, director of Engineering and Operations. “We’re asking motorists for their patience during this time, to be alert, and to obey the construction signs when approaching and driving through the road work area.”

This stretch of Beverly Street was identified in the 2015 award-winning University Village Local Area Plan (UVLAP) as a location for gateway enhancement. The UVLAP, a collaboration between North Cowichan and the City of Duncan, also identifies this area as a priority for revitalization and redevelopment. This road work project is a significant first step in realizing many of the desired outcomes for this important part of North Cowichan, the municipality said.
