Cowichan Bulldogs open spring season on the road

After all three teams had byes to start the football season, the Cowichan Valley Bulldogs all kicked off their spring campaigns on Saturday, April 13 with road trips.

The atoms visited the Nanaimo Blitz, while the peewees and junior bantams went a little further north to play against Oceanside.

The atoms got some early season experience but picked up a loss to the Blitz.

“Even though we didn’t come out on top, I was so proud of the boys for playing so hard right till the final whistle,” head coach Kyle Bellis said of his team, the majority of whom are first-time football players. Touchdowns came from Deven Rhandawa, Austin Shaver, Tait Clarke and a pair from Finnley Bellis. The atoms play their season opener at McAdam Park this coming Saturday at 10 a.m.

The peewee ‘Dogs didn’t get the start they’d hoped for, suffering a lopsided loss to the Oceanside Lions.

The Bulldogs tied 14-14 with Oceanside on Saturday.
