The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting expressions of interest from volunteers to serve on the its Regional Parks and Trails Master Plan Advisory Group.

The advisory group will provide input and feedback to the CVRD board, staff and consultants, contributing throughout the planning process to update the CVRD Regional Parks and Trails Master Plan, beginning in early 2024.

Volunteers will be selected by the CVRD’s board who can bring a diversity of interests and knowledge applicable to regional parks and trails.

This includes ecological and biodiversity conservation; outdoor recreation; Indigenous interests; heritage conservation; accessibility and inclusivity; climate change mitigation and adaptation; and parks and/or conservation area planning.

The advisory group will serve for the duration of the regional park plan update process anticipated to take 13 to 15 months to complete, involving participation in a number of meetings and attendance with public engagement events.

To review the Terms of Reference, or to submit an expression of interest, visit https://www.cvrd.ca/301/Regional-Parks-and-Trails-MasterPlan.

“As we begin the process of updating this regional master plan, we’re excited to work with interested residents who can contribute their knowledge and share values for parks and open spaces within the CVRD as we plan for the future,” said CVRD chair Aaron Stone.

“This is a great opportunity to contribute to the ongoing enhancement and longevity of our renowned regional parks and trails system, and we encourage anyone interested to learn more by reviewing the Terms of Reference on the CVRD website.”

Paper copies of the Expression of Interest form can be picked up at the CVRD main reception at 175 Ingram St., Duncan.

Completed forms must be submitted to the CVRD by Nov. 17.
