The women of the Rivernotes Choir have been together for more than five years. Choir director Judith Quinlan is an accomplished musician and choir leader.

In past years the choir has performed at Summer Nights, the Strawberry Tea during Lake Days, the 50 Plus Activity Centre, with the Medford Singers and the Cowichan Musical Festival where they came first in the community choir category in 2013.

Several songs and arrangements inspire the Rivernotes to perform. Some favourite tunes are the ’60s chicks’, ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Sister Act’ and the ‘Rose’. We do like the ones with river in them like ‘River Run’ and ‘Down to the River to Pray’, to pay homage to our beautiful Cowichan River.

Our next performance is Saturday, April 29 at the Golden Agers’ Spring Banquet at the 50 Plus Centre in Lake Cowichan. Visit the centre for tickets for the dinner or call 250-749-6121 for details. The Canadian Duo Suite will also be playing an eclectic mix of music that night for your listening and dancing enjoyment.

The Strawberry Tea, the kick off to Cowichan Lake Days, is our next gig. It will be in the lower Centennial Hall on Monday, June 5 and is especially for seniors. The full program starts at 6:30 p.m. with presentations from the Ladies of the Lake candidates for 2017 along with delicious strawberry shortcake, coffee and tea served by the girls.

And before our break in the summer we’ll be performing most of our repertoire at the Farmer’s Market in Central Park on Sunday, June 25 at 11 a.m. The market has moved to Sundays and is now at Central Park where the band shell and fountain are located.

The Rivernotes practice at the 50 Plus Centre on Monday evenings at 6 p.m. sharp, except in the summer, and we encourage new members in September of each year.
