Frances Kelsey Secondary School principal Jeff Rowan announced that for the first time in the Mill Bay school’s 23-year history, two of its students have won full-tuition scholarships to Vancouver Island University. Based on a four year program, each scholarship is valued at approximately $23,000.
Grade 12 students Paisley Fritz and Noah Wickham were notified last month that they were the successful applicants, after having been nominated by the school.
Fritz won the VIU President’s Entrance Scholarship for High School Students while Wickham won the VIU Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarships for Aboriginal High School Students.
The awards are available to one top academic Grade 12 student from each Vancouver Island public and private high school. Students must be completing their Grade 12 high school year with an “A” average of 90 per cent or higher (with no mark lower than a “B”) for each of their Grade 11 and 12 courses in the eight defined academic courses.
As scholarship recipients, Fritz and Wickham will also be assigned a priority registration date for the fall semester.
Fritz plans to study nursing through exploratory studies and has a special interest in pediatrics, while Wickham plans to study Natural Resource Management and hopes to protect the environment on Vancouver Island by becoming a conservation officer.
