Inaugural Judo competition to honour Tristan Alexander taking place in Colwood

The competition starts at 8:30 a.m. and will run into the late afternoon

The inaugural Tristan Alexander Memorial Open is a new judo tournament set to take place at Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre on Saturday, April 20.

The eventis in memory of Alexander, who died on January 5, 2021, after a snowboarding accident at Mt. Washington.

Various age groups will be competing in Colwood in the following groupings: under 14, under 16, under 18, under 21, and more.

There have been 200 entries for the event, and the medal presentations follow each competition block.

Alexander was a black belt, which he was awarded in 2016. He won several gold medals in international judo tournaments.

He spoke with Black Press Media in 2013 about his accomplishments in Judo when he was 14.

The competition starts at 8:30 a.m. and will run into the late afternoon.

There will be an award presentation for a judoka for exemplifying leadership and perseverance between 3 and 5 p.m. Alexander’s parents will be in attendance.
