Have you ever been curious about equestrian vaulting?

Equestrian vaulting is a relatively new discipline that combines gymnastic movements with equestrian sport, resulting in a team-based dance aesthetic performed atop a moving horse. Equestrian vaulting has been most recently popularized by the Cirque du Soleil-esque Cavalia performance group (touring since 2003).

The Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association invites the public to get a look at equestrian vaulting Monday, May 1, at the CTRA facility at Providence Farm. A local vaulting troupe will be performing an ’80s themed routine that is sure to get your toes (and hooves) tapping along, say organizers.

Equestrian vaulting offers an opportunity for horse enthusiasts of all levels to blend their love of riding with dance, gymnastics, teamwork, and performance art. Vaulting is also a fun way to get a serious work out, develop confidence, and make new friends. The Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association offers an adapted equestrian vaulting program for vaulters of all abilities.

The demonstration starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by CTRA’s annual general meeting. Admission is free and no CTRA membership is required to attend. Spectators are welcome to stay for the meeting, share some refreshments, and learn more about the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association.
